The House on Tuesday passed legislation that would increase the pay for federal workers, as the threat of another government shutdown looms. Introduced by Democratic Rep. Gerry Connolly of Virginia, the Federal Civilian Workforce Pay Raise Fairness Act of 2019 calls for a cost of living increase of 2.6 percent, the same percentage as the military pay increase approved for this year. The bill passed 259-161 and now heads to the Senate.The move comes as some 800,000 federal employees returned to work after a 35-day partial government shutdown. During that period, they missed two paychecks. While they ll receive back pay, the shutdown caused a financial strain for many. I am not going to burden the church at the moment with my presence and as a consequence your presence, he said, referring to the media attention the church has recieved since the Rev. Jeremiah Wright controversy. I think it s important for the church to be able to worship in fellowship especially on Mother s Day, which has some of the biggest attendance of the year without the distractions of a presidential campaign, Obama added. The campaign will head to West Virginia tomorrow where Obama will make, most likely, his only appearance there prior to the primary there on Tuesday. He has a campaign event in Charleston, W.V. before heading to a rally in Louisville, Ky. Meantime, Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., announced to the St. Louis Post Gazette yesterday that on Tuesday, Obama will visit Missouri, a key swing state in the general election where he ll likely hold an economic town hall meeting in the rural town of Cape Girardeau. ponent--type-recirculation .item:nth-child 5 {
