The U.S. Supreme Court s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade means that abortions won t be available in many conservative states which had already passed so-called trigger laws banning the procedure. Among those is Wyoming. It s really easy to say you will never have an abortion, until you find yourself in the impossible situation where you need one, Riata Walk stanley spain er told stanley puodelis CBS News.In January 2020, Walker discovered that her 20-week-old fetus had severe heart defects and chromosomal complications. Had she brought the fetus to term, doctors said it would not have survived. stanley website So Walker and her husband drove more than four hours from their home in Casper, Wyoming, to a hospital in Denver. We had to terminate a pregnancy for medical reasons, for a daughter we desperately wanted, Walker said. You don t know what choices you would make until you re in that situation, and it s really easy in a hypothetical to say I d never choose that. In March, Wyoming s Republican-controlled legislature enacted the trigger law which will soon take effect in the wake of Friday s ruling. Wyoming s law makes exceptions for cases of sexual assault, incest and the physical health of the mother.Wyoming is one of 13 states which passed such trigger laws. I call on everyone, no matter how deeply they care about this decision, to keep all protests peaceful, peaceful, peaceful, peaceful, no intimidation, violence is never acceptable, President Joe Biden told the na Mvrm Donald Trump compares military school to service in biography
There are no campaign signs, no crowds around former Sen. Lincoln Chafee. He s standing, sometimes alone, as baseball fans stream toward the stadium before a Pawtucket Red Sox game.If not for the occasional supporter who asks to take a picture with him or stop for a chat, Chafee might go unnoticed as the independent candidate for governor of Rhode Island.Chafee is making his first run fo stanley thermobecher r office since 2007, when he left the Republican Party after losing his Senate seat to a Democrat. And while he s forging his own identity, he s taking a gamble: waging a campaign without major party funding and manpower. Independent candidates - particularly well-financed ones - have had some high-profile successes. Sen. Joe Lieberman won re-election in Connecticut after leaving the Democratic Party, and Sen. This story was written by Lia Ganosellis, Independent Florida AlligatorThough UF President Bernie Machen s endorsement of a presidential candidate was unusual for a leader in public higher education, university leaders said Wednesday it s not a big deal - just Machen s opinion.Although unaware of Machen s intentions before his weekend announcement that he is endorsing Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., in the 2008 presidential race, Provost Janie Fouke said she wasn t surprised by his decision to share his political views. I think it s clear that many public figures have private lives, and I think it s appropriate, Fouke said. There should be no question of whether Machen s support for McCain would seem to represent the views of the UF community, she said. I think he was clear that he was expressing his personal values, Fouke said. Dianna Morgan, chairwoman of UF s Boa stanley cups uk rd of Trustees, UF s highest governing body, said Machen s announcement shouldn t come as a shock. Dr. Machen has the same free-speech rights as any of us, Morgan said. However, despite Machen s assertion that his endorsement is independent from his UF position, Morgan said she expects Machen s statement will reflect on the university no matter what.People will make their own judgments, she said, but the endorsement shou stanley sverige ldn t be regarded as an stanley canada ything but only his opinion. Following the death of Representative John Lewis on Friday, millions have paid tribute to the Georgia Congressman s decades of activism, fighting for social justice and voting rights. Many pointed to Lewis iconic leadership in the 1965 march that came to be known as Bloody Sunday, leading to a surge of support to rename the Edmund Pettus Bridge, where the peaceful marchers were attacked by police, in Lewis honor.Edmund Pettus was a brigadier general in the Confederate Army during stanley cup the Civil War. He later joined the Alabama Ku Klux Klan and ascended to the level of Grand Dragon, according to theSmithsonian. Pettus also served in the U.S. Senate from 1897 until his death on July 27, 1907.A Change.org petitionsupporting the name change amassed thousands of signatures within a day after Lewis death. The petition was launched about a month ago, and had garnered around 250,000 signatures prior to Lewis death. By Saturday evening, the petitioned had received more than 437,000 signatures. AUSTIN, Texas -- Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones was accused in court filings Friday of destroying evidence relevant to the case of families from Sandy Hook Elementary School who are suing him for claiming the massacre was a hoax. Attorneys for two Sandy Hook victims noted that Jones said during a recent broadcast of his radio program that he d told his staff to delete information from the website of his Infowars media company after CNN cited content from it for violating Twitter policies. That followed Twitter saying earlier this week that it was temporarily suspending Jones for violating company rules about inciting violence. Families of Sandy Hook victims are suing Jones for spreading false claims about the 2012 shootin airmax g in Newtown, Connecticut, that killed 20 children and six adults. Jones originally su air max 1 ggested that the killings were staged, and those suing him said they ve since been tormented by his followers and forced to move seven times. Jones now says he believes the Sandy Hook shooting did occur, but has argued that the case should be dismissed because he was acting as a journalist. Jones attorney, Mark Enoch, did not immediately return a phone message seeking comment Friday. The filings came in Travis County, which includes Austin, near where Jones media company is based air max 1 . They argue that Jones admitted that he instructed his staff to delete the materials. The loss of this evidence prejudices plaintiffs case beca
