漏 Yuliia 鈥?stock.adobe UVA broke ground Friday on the Paul and Diane Manning Institute of Biotechnology, a historic milestone for UVA that will propel it to the forefront of cutting-edge medicine. The Institute will fast track the development of new treatments and cures and transform how healthcare is delivered across the state and beyond.A generous $100 million donation from philanthropists Paul and Diane Manning, after whom the institute is named, will fund the construction. The Institute also represents a major investment by UVA and state leaders who recognize the institutes potential to tackle some of the greatest challenges in medicine while driving economic growth for the entire Commonwealth. Officials estimate the institute will generate hundreds of jobs directly and potentially thousands indirectly by drawing biotech and pharmaceutical companies to a new ecosystem of innovation surrounding the state-of-the-art, 350,000-square-foot facility in Fontaine Research Park.Virginia Gov. Carly at the Movies column by Carl Larsen Write a movie review about Mothers Day, growled my editor. But Mothers Day will be over by the time its published on Monday! I exclaimed logically. My editor growled, spat out his nasty old cigar, and bit the head o stanley canada ff a live chicken. I got the idea. So I stuck Mom on the end of the title for this review, hoping he would think its about Mothers Day. But its not. Sorry about that. Please forgive me. But you know how editors are. Now, lets review the movie:All the new films re stanley uk leased this week look either stupid or crappy, so I decided to watch the DVD of a 2007 movie I miss taza stanley ed when it came out called Before the Devil Knows Youre Dead. Theres a mother in it, for sure, but she doesnt fare too well right from the get-go. And it seems to me the theme of the film might be: Never Listen to Your Elders. Or at least, your elder brother. The great Philip Seymour Hoffman, who seems to relish playing characters that make you feel squeamish, is the elder brother in this case. His younger brother, a pishy little loser, is nicely portrayed by Ethan Hawke. Both have big-time problems, and together with petty thug Brian F. OBryne, they set up a heist that of course goes very, very wrong. This could be just any gritty post- Reservoir Dogs heist movie, but its directed by Sidney Lumet, who turns it into a fascinating 鈥?almost spellbinding 鈥?character study. Hes an old-timer, dating back to the golden age of television, having directed for Studio One
