CARIBOU, Maine 鈥?With its urban residential areas mostly developed, Caribou will need more rural housing in the next decade to keep up with current demands. At a recent community forum, most of the 50 residents in attendance said they be adidas samba lieve the city needs more subdivisions and multi-family apartments to better attract and keep residents. But new housing has largely not materialized since the early 2000s and might not happen any time soon. That is due in part to Maine subdivision laws, which leaders say come with cumbersome regulations on local developers.Initially passed in the early 1970s, the state law was intended to prevent urban sprawl in southern areas. At the time, Portland city center had mostly been developed, pushing more residents into neighboring Gorham and Windham. With the advent of shopping malls, Bangor Stillwater Avenue developed, but with an access road that began intruding on the quieter rural communities, creating suburb-like nike sb dunk housing conditions. .wp-block-newspack-blocks-homepage-articles article .entry-titlefont-size: 1.2em;.wp-block-newspack-blocks-homepage-articles .entry-metadisplay: flex;flex-wrap: wrap;align-items: center;margin-top: 0.5em;.wp-block-newspack-blocks-homepage-articles article .entry-metafont-size: 0.8em;.wp-block-newspack-blocks-homepage-articles articl nike dunk e .avatarheight: 25px;width: 25px;.wp-block-newspack-blocks-homepage-articles .post-thumbnailmargin: 0;margin-bottom: 0.25em;.wp-block-newspack-block Xrtv Man charged with kidnapping woman and taking her from South Carolina to Maine

Tobacco use will no longer be permitted in public parks, playgrounds and athletic fields in Lewiston. The Lewiston Sun Journal reports that city councilors on Tuesday unanimously approved the ban.The ordinance prohibits smoking and use of all tobacco products, including vaping and e-cigarettes, in city-owned parks and recreational facilities, according to the agenda for the Tuesday council meeting. The penalty for a first offense is $100, with it rising in $100 increments for successive violations, the Sun Journal reports.Lewiston is the latest Maine city to move to restrict tobacco use in public spaces out of concern for its impact on public health. Earlier this month, the Saco City Council banned tobacco products from public spaces. In July, the Brunswick Town Council approved an ordinance prohibiting smoking and vaping between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. in downtown.Other communities, such as Houlton and Bangor, have prohibited smoking in certain public parks. The Bangor ban, approved by the City Council in 2016, only includes playgrounds, swimming pools, ball fields and other amenities geared toward children rather than all city parks. In 2017, the Legislat yeezy store ure overrode a veto from then-Gov. ATLANTA 鈥?Republican activists who believe the 2020 election was stolen from former President Donald Trump have crafted a plan that, in their telling, will thwart cheating in this year midterm elections. The strategy: Vote in person on Election Day or 鈥?for voters who receive a mailed ballot 鈥?hold onto it and hand it in at a polling place or election yeezy mexico office on Nov. 8.The plan is based on unfounded conspiracy theories that fraudsters will manipulate voting systems to rig results for Democrats once they have seen how many Republican votes have been returned early. There has been no evidence of a yeezy ny such widespread fraud. If enough voters are dissuaded from casting ballots early, it could lead to long lines on Election Day and would push back processing of those late-arriving mailed ballots. 聽lettersnewsAn estimated 635 Mainerslost their lives due to drug overdoses in 2021. Each of these deaths was preventable. It is therefore essential that we use every available tool to shift our response to the overdose epidemic away from the current criminalization model to one emphasizing public health. One such strategy is expansion of the Good Samaritan law. Right now, Maines Good Samaritan law only shields the person experiencing an overdose and a person who calls for help from some limited crimes. That means yeezy others at the scene of an overdose are at risk of criminal prosecution when emergency services arrive to provide life saving aid. We have to expand the law so people dont have t adidas yeezy o choose between calling emergency services and risking prosecution, or attempting to intervene on their own. Expanding Maines Go stanley taza od Samaritan law reflects working Mainers solidarity with individuals living with substance use disorders.Accordingly, Maines workers must make themselves heard. We must demand that the state expand its Good Samaritan law to shield those at the scene of an overdose from criminal prosecution for non-violent offenses. Please support the Good Samaritan bill so together we can empower Mainers to save lives. This can be done by speaking with your legislators or submitting testimony in favor of LD 1862.
