A new educational tool that allows students to track earthquake motions from their classrooms is now available online at a NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory JPL web site. The project is part of the Southern California Integrated GPS Network SCIGN , an array of 250 Global Positioning System GPS receivers that continuously measure the constant, yet barely perceptible, movements of earthq stanley flask uake faults throughout Southern California. The project was motivated because many of our GPS stations are being placed at schools. We wanted students to have an opportunity to be involved in the project, however the web pages have been developed for use in any school. They are also available to the general public and other organizations such as libraries, said Dr. Frank Webb, a JPL geophysicist and the executive chairman of SCIGN. These web pages use earthquakes as a starting point and we hope the site will enable students to look at stanley termosky and use real data to solve problems. Also, in the event of an earthquake, theyll be able to get online and see how their area moved as a result of the earthquake. The pages are available at

. The site is designed for high school and beginning college students, but middle school teachers have told us they can use parts stanley flasche of it too, said Maggi Glasscoe, the SCIGN team member who designed the pages. Our hope is to illustrate math concepts, such as reading a graph, help students learn how to do Xfhu Here s What to Know About Lewy Body Dementia
By Alexandra SifferlinFebruary 5, 2015 6:41 AM ESTIt a not-very-well-kept secret in the realm of science: when it comes to producing world-class research, the U.S. is losing its edge because of belt-tightening that limiting medical innovation, says Dr. Francis Collins, director of the National Institutes of Health NIH . The agency budget of around $30 billion is up from 2004 $28 billion in nominal dollarsbut when adjusted for the inflation in cost for medical research, the current budget reflects a drop of nearly 25% in purchasing power. We have investigators in the U.S. who have great ideas, talent, creativity and energy who are frankly at the point of giving up, says Collins. That means all the talent and investment they represent is potentially being squandered. The agency hopes President Obama 2016 budget proposal will pass, increasing NIH budget by $1 billion. But NIH isn ;t the only group that been affected. The rate of growth in medical-research funds has dropped nearly 10% on an inflation-adjusted basis since 2004.This innovation gap stanley cup , ni stanley tumbler cknamed a valley of death by some in the field, has coincided with the launch of startups that rely on crowdfunding strategies to raise small amounts of cash from lots of different people instead of relying on hefty sums from one.The website Experiment, for instance, collec stanley cup ts donations for projects like developing a better eye
