WASHINGTON 鈥?After years of promises and months of negotiations, Democrats appear to be on the verge of prescription drug reform. Senator Joe Manchin D-WV announced he had reached a deal with Democrat stanley cup ic leadership to enact sweeping reforms involving health care, the climate and taxes. Manchin previously blocked efforts to enact similar legislati stanley cup on last year. One of the most consequential changes involves prescription drugs. The newly released legislation caps out-of-pocket costs for those with Medicare Part D at 2,000 annually. The legislation also enacts penalties for com stanley us panies that raise prices above inflation. Perhaps most importantly, the proposal would allow Medicare to negotiate with prescription drug companies for the very first time. A CATCH Like most things in Washington, there is a catch. Recipients on Medicare would not benefit from the newly-allowed negotiation with prescription drug companies until 2026. Only 10 drugs would be selected for negotiation at first, with more drugs becoming eligible in subsequent years. Between now and then, the program would be set up. The legislation may also not impact the price of drugs when they first enter the market. That could allow pharmaceutical companies to set a higher price initially, knowing that future price hikes would be unlikely. WHAT S NEXT This bill is already being met with opposition from Republicans in the Senate. Tesla shareholders should reject CEO Elon stanley cup Musk s $56 billion pay package, according to proxy advisory firm Glass Lewis, which singled out the excessive size of the deal and its potentially negative impact on smaller shareholders. The recommendation from the influential proxy advisory company comes as Tesla is asking its shareholders to vote again on his 2018 pay package after a Delaware judge earlier this year nullified the payout, which was the biggest compensation plan in corporate America.Tesla shareholders are set to vote on the pay package on June 13. Election officials in Virginia acknowledged that nearly 4,000 voters were miscounted in the 2020 presidential election, but would have had no impact on the election.According to the Office of Elections for Prince William County, officials undercounted 1,648 votes for Joe Biden and overcounted 2,327 votes for Donald Trump. In total, Biden should have received 3,975 more votes than his actual total.Biden won the state by over 455,000 votes, so ultimately the incorrectly counted votes did not cost him the state.Eric Olsen, the county s director of elections, said these errors were not spotted as the results were not within the state s margin for a recount. Had the candidates been within 1% of each other, the state would have ordered a recount. The reporting errors were presumably a consequence of the results tapes not being programmed to a format that was compatible with s stanley bottles tate reporting requirements, Olsen said. Attempts to correct this issue appear to have created errors. The reporting errors did not consistently favor one party or candidate but were likely due to a lack of proper planning stanley cup , a difficult election environment, and human error. SEE MORE: Where Republican candidates go next after the Iowa caucusesOlsen said the error also caused some other candidat stanley cup es to have their election tallies incorrectly tabulated. He added that those errors ultimately had no bearing on the election. This article originally appeared in National Journal.DALLAS -- Katrina is Katrina.Nothing else compares in terms of engineering, management, and government failure. It is a singular nightmare of nature. A maelstrom of human bungling intensified its misery with harrowing, near-homicidal effect. stanley cup For those who forget, 1,833 Americans died in Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath. Fifty-three levees in and around New Orleans were breached, submerging 80 percent of the city. The U.S. Coast Guard rescued 33,500 stranded people. Three million lost electricity. Federal disaster declarations covered 90,000 square miles--nearly the area of the United Kingdom. Similarly, 66 percent of independents supported the policy. Democrats and Republicans came down along partisan lines: 56 percent of Republicans opposed the policy change, while 86 percent of Democrats supported it. Under the new policy, according to the Department of Homeland Security, immigrants under 30 who were brought to the United States before the age of 16, meet certain qualifications and do not present a risk to national security or public safety will be considered for relief from deportation - effective immediately. The policy is similar to the proposed DREAM Act, which was voted down by Congress in late 2010.
